Because I'm unaware that I might actually be afraid of being attacked and might need it

Or at least him mentioning it puts me in touch with the fact that I might have those beliefs?

世界只会引发人的防卫。因为威胁激起愤怒，而愤怒使攻击显得理所当然；既然情非得已，自我防卫之举遂成了师出有名。

其实，设防反而带来了双重的威胁。因它透露了当事人的脆弱，他所建立的防卫系统也不堪一击。这对弱者形成了双重的伤害，他不只得面对外来的叛逆，还得面对更深的自我叛逆。于是心灵陷入迷惘，不知该向何处求助才摆脱得了这些假想敌。

不设防就是力量。它证明了你已认出活在你内的基督。也许你还记得〈正文〉所说的话：你的抉择一向是在基督的力量及你的软弱无能（因你以为自己与基督分裂了）之间作选择。

不设防之境是不会受到攻击的，因为不设防表示已认清那力量的伟大；相形之下，攻击显得极其愚昧，犹如疲倦的孩子所玩的无聊把戏，他已经困得记不得自己要什么了。

That's all they're there for, to reflect to you an alignment in your belief system, wherein you are willing to say

I'm willing to change my beliefs and allow something to happen I didn't believe was possible by using this thing

But you can use those reflections as helpers to put you in touch with what you believe is true.
